It has happened again. The Consortium’s first blog was written in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Brussels. This weekend the carnage was in Orlando. One more pointless tragedy that is incomprehensible and all too real. One person’s destructive violence ricocheted through the lives of so many others causing death, irrevocable harm and permeating uncertainty. However, as the hours pass, in contradiction to the shooter’s intended outcome, there has been an outpouring of compassion, solidarity, and the unifying voice of millions joining together as one. We are invincible. We will not be bowed by terrorists.
Instead, I’d like to acknowledge educators and health care professionals. They are devoted to making sure that all of us in the caring professions are well prepared for meeting the needs of crises like this. They recognize when others are fragile, vulnerable or at risk. And they provide help. They reach out. They show the compassion that is so sorely needed in our country today.
